A unique Syrah grown by Bruce Morford, a pioneering farmer of French-Canadian descent in the Yakima Valley. Tucked on a north facing slope high above the Missoula flood plain, the site is rich in volcanic soils laced with compacted clay. A wet spring, then a blistering start to the vintage, produced vigorous canopies and huge crop loads. June balanced the quick start with moderate temperatures and a few extra weeks to develop before summer heat pushed grapes through veraison. Early September rains triggered nightly cool downs, slowing sugars while maintaining acidity.
PROFILE: Rich, deep eggplant hues, beefy, savory toasted barrel and worcestershire sauce, black and blue fruit aromatics, and fragrant wisteria. North facing exposure and soils bring herbaceous, savory and acid driven style over plump berry, resulting in an age worthy food wine.
