2018 Lady Hill Riesling
Champoeg Vineyard, or “La Butte” as named by early settlers, was first planted in 1858. Twenty years later, Butteville was named the wine capital of the Oregon Territory. Planted in 1974, the 22-acre terraced, steep southeast facing vineyard, is considered one of the oldest in the state producing only a few concentrated clusters per plant. Harvested late in the season, long after fall rains have begun and birds have had their fill, Riesling straggles into the cellar, looking like it has seen better days. In 2018, moderate conditions, low rain and impact allowed the clusters to hang unpenetrated by the “noble rot.” Carefully hand selecting fruit, our goal was to produce an “off dry” Riesling with balanced acidity; perfect for food accompaniment.
Flavescent to pastel yellow hues around rim. Tropical stone fruits of apricot and nectarine highlight vintage aromatics. Rich full mouthfeel lingers finishing with balanced bright, refreshing acidity. Wine will age gracefully through 2029 given acid and structure. Pair with butternut squash, curry soup or spicy Thai ground pork salad. Ranked by Food & Wine Magazine as one of Oregon's top Rieslings. 91 points, Wine Enthusiast.
